MORE free dress passes and things we need for Carnival!

-You now receive 3 free dress passes* for your student if you work the clean-up shift (9-10pm) (first 15 people!)

-and 2 free dress passes* for working the remaining 7:30-9:30 shifts,
email me if you sign up for these!

sign up here: help.shmpta.org

Also:
---Does anyone have a small water pump, like from a fountain or pond? We need it to circulate the water in the Duck Pond game.
---We need hay!  It looks like the weather will be great on Carnival day, but we may get a little more rain on our already soaked field before then, so we need to hay to cover the wet/muddy spots.  It would be great if we could have some donated and delivered to the school on Friday, Nov. 2. (3 free dress passes)
---As always, we need more bakery goods for the Cake Walk.  These must be purchased and individually wrapped store-bought items (ie. no home-baked goods, sorry).  Please bring them to school Friday!
---We could also use a generator and work lights on stands (free dress passes for these, too!)

Contact Ken at carnival@shmpta.org, or by text 817-601-5845

*free dress passes must be used before Christmas break.

SHM Fall Carnival Planning Update

SHM Fall Carnival is coming together… BUT we need your help!!!

We need help with the following:
  • We have the most popular attractions from last year returning, but we NEED IDEAS FOR ANOTHER MAIN ATTRACTION!  If you’ve seen something really cool at a Carnival, let me know!!  Something that will encourage people to come and that the kids will love!  Last year we had a Petting Zoo and The Eliminator (a Wipeout-type knock down game) as main attractions and they were not as popular as we had hoped, so we’re looking at new options.  We have some things lined up, but are open to new and better ideas!
  • Donations for the Cake Walk:  these need to be labeled and from a business (not home made, sorry).  And we’re looking for some allergy-free options (gluten, nut, milk -free options).
  • Doing an Inventory of current Carnival supplies at the school; just a couple volunteers!
  • Finding a source of cheap Silly String
  • Making boxes for tickets.  These boxes are used for collecting tickets at each attraction.
  • Ideas for Día de Muertos:  things to make, to sell, or to do along this theme!
  • Face painters, especially those that can do Día de Muertos face painting and are willing to volunteer their time at Carnival!
  • Repainting the Cakewalk area on the back patio of the school.
To help, email:  carnival@shmpta.org

SPONSORS: If you know a local business, organization, or individual that would like to sponsor Carnival please print our or email them this Carnival Sponsorship Packet!

We will have specific volunteer sign up opportunities soon!  If you haven't already, please register as a SHM Volunteer at fwisd.voly.org!  Thanks!

And if you know anyone else who would like to volunteer at Carnival, please have them email:  carnival@shmpta.org

Some exciting news about FOOD at Carnival this year:

Mr. Bill Louthan, father of our music teacher Ms. Louthan, and former owner of Clown Burger in Haltom City will be making hamburgers for Carnival again this year!!!

There will be 2 food locations at Carnival:
The first will serve hamburgers and BBQ brisket sandwiches.
The second will serve:  Flauta plates with rice and beans, Eloté (Corn in a cup), Nachos, and Bags of Fruit.
Both locations will sell cans of soft drinks and water with cups of ice.
And we’ll have a Snack Shack.

2018 Fall Carnival Planning Meeting Friday 8/31 at 9:30 AM

We will have a planning meeting for SHM's 2018 Carnival on Friday, August 31, at 9:30 AM!

It's time to make final preparations for our Fall Carnival that is only 2 months away!!!

If you can't come, please email your suggestions or comments!!!

Here is the current agenda for the meeting, please let me know if you have any suggestions/additions:

Carnival topics:

Recap of 2017 Carnival:  Carnival brought in $9,267.42 total, with expenses of $4,095.68, that's a profit of $5,171.75, but a big caveat is that not all the expenses are reflected because some things were purchased and leftover from the previous year.

Date and time of Carnival:  The date has been chosen: Friday, November 2. But we still need to discuss hours for the Carnival.

Food:  Last year it was only tacos, nachos, quesadillas, etc.  Previous years there was also burgers. Most profit comes from doing the food ourselves unless a vendor is willing to donate.  But doing it ourselves requires manpower. Also to discuss location, but maybe at a later meeting.

Fundraising:  Possible sponsorships, signage, booths?  Ideas?

Promotion:  Ideas for more promotion of the event to the community.  Ie. mentions in Church bulletins, more neighborhood signage.  Ideas?

Attractions:  see attached attraction totals from 2017
Band:  Texas Soul Beats (was unavailable in 2017, but performed all previous years in English and Spanish)
Cake walk:  was very popular last year.  Line up more pastry donations
Prizes:  Do we have enough prizes for the games?  Need an inventory and order more if necessary.

Volunteers:  Parent/Teacher volunteers, Tarleton volunteers were extremely helpful last year, maybe even some volunteers from Christ Chapel.

Leadership areas:  Food, Attractions, Sponsorships, Promotion/Signage, Volunteer coordinator

attachment to agenda:  Ticket income by attraction from last year's Carnival:
